Academy of Medical Royal Colleges

The umbrella body for all 24 medical royal colleges and faculties in the UK, setting cross-specialty standards for medical education and clinical quality. 

Care Quality Commission (CQC): 

The independent regulator of health and adult social care in England, responsible for inspecting services to ensure they are safe, effective and compassionate.

Department of Health and Social Care

The government ministerial department that sets national health policy, manages funding, and oversees the health and care system in England.

General Medical Council (GMC)

The independent regulator for doctors in the UK, maintaining the medical register and setting the standards for medical education and professional conduct.

Health and Safety Executive (HSE)

The UK's national regulator for workplace health and safety, providing guidance to prevent work-related death, injury, and ill health.

Health Research Authority (HRA)

A body that protects and promotes the interests of patients and the public in health and social care research, ensuring studies are ethical and safe.

Healthcare Improvement Scotland

The national organisation responsible for providing quality assurance and helping health and social care services in Scotland improve their standards.

NHS Digital

Formerly the national provider of information, data, and IT systems for commissioners and clinicians; its functions were recently merged into NHS England to streamline digital health services.

NHS England

The lead body for the NHS in England, responsible for the day-to-day operation of the health service, commissioning services, and supporting the workforce.

NHS Improvement

An organisation that previously oversaw foundation trusts and NHS trusts; it has now been merged with NHS England to create a single system lead.

Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC)

The professional regulator for nurses and midwives in the UK and nursing associates in England, maintaining the professional register and setting the Code.

UK Research and Innovation (UKRI)

A non-departmental public body that directs research and innovation funding in the UK, including medical research that informs clinical practice.
